A new book by Konstantin Roninio, released in 2023.
Konstantin Roninio is a writer, psychologist, and one of the founders of the Odysseia travel club. He is a researcher of authentic shamanism in Peru and Mexico and has organized over 150 expeditions to shamans over the past 20 years. He lives in Lima, Peru, and spends most of his time on expeditions across different regions of Latin America.
This book is made up of stories: stories from my life and the lives of those remarkable people I’ve had the fortune to meet. That’s why I decided to call it «Meetings with Remarkable People.» Some readers might know that this was once the title of a book by George Gurdjieff, which I read with great interest during my childhood. In his book, he wrote about his travels through Central Asia. In mine, most of the events take place in Latin America, especially in Peru and Mexico. I’ve come to love this region of the world. I’ve lived and worked here for a long time, and I constantly meet remarkable people, both locals and those who come here from other corners of the planet.
Over a couple of decades, I’ve accumulated many stories. However, I didn’t include all of them in this book, and I didn’t write about all of my friends. There are many reasons for this. Not all stories are ready for publication. Many are so personal that I don’t feel it’s my place to write about them. The stories I’ve selected for the book are both captivating and instructive. I aimed to focus on the educational value of the stories. Perhaps, in another book, I will write about other stories that happened to me and those that are yet to come.
I also want to emphasize that there are no fictional stories in this book. I’m not inclined to blend imagination with reality, as some authors do when writing about topics related to shamanism. The stories are not presented in chronological order but rather follow the chaotic nature of my memories and the reflections associated with them.
